The wait is finally over, as December brings the global release of JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit to the silver screen.
So this month, we celebrate the art inspired by the godfather of modern fantasy, from Lord of the Rings themed imagery to an exclusive look behind the drawing boards of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Tolkein visionaries John Howe and Alan Lee guide us through their creative journey to translate The Hobbit from page to the big screen, while Snowblind Studios concept artist Ilya Nazarov shares his experiences with bringing Middle Earth to life in Lord of the Rings: War in the North.
Staying firmly in the realm of Tolkien, we also have several special workshops for you to get stuck into; find out how Dreamworks artist Woonyoung Jung created our Gollum cover, along with how to depict a battle between Eowyn and the evil Witch-King with Nacho Molina. Also, Corrado Vanelli shows you how to paint a delicate elven beauty, Justin Gerard demonstrates how to draw a dragon with character, and Donato Giancola shares his artistic approach to creating majestic fantasy art.
And if that's all not enough, we are delighted to announce the winners of our Rising Stars 2012 competition. Once again, the standard of entries this year was excellent, and we would like to thank you all for taking part. Stay tuned for more information regarding our winners!
